A bat in northern Harris County (Lauder Rd. @
JFK Blvd.) has tested positive for rabies according to Harris County Public
Health and Environmental Services (HCPHES) Veterinary Public Health division.
There were no known human exposures. A currently vaccinated family cat may have
had contact. Proper precautions are being observed.
HCPHES Veterinary Public Health Animal Control Officers will be in the area on Tuesday, October 3rd, to inform residents about the bat and to encourage them to keep their pets currently vaccinated against rabies.
Bats and skunks are considered at high risk for
rabies in Harris County and should never be handled. HCPHES Veterinary Public
